Classic All-American Cheeseburger

Preparation time:30 minutes

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Total time: 45 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

- 4 hamburger buns

- 4 slices of American cheese

- 4 lettuce leaves

- 4 tomato slices

- 4 onion slices

- 4 pickle slices

- Optional toppings: ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Instructions:

1. Preheat grill or stovetop pan to medium-high heat.

2. In a mixing bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently until well combined. Divide the mixture into four equal portions (about ¼ pound each). Shape each portion into a patty, making sure they are slightly larger than the diameter of the hamburger buns, as they tend to shrink while cooking.

3. Place the burger patties on the preheated grill or pan. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, or until desired level of doneness is achieved. For a medium-rare burger, cook for around 4 minutes on each side; adjust cooking time accordingly based on your preference.

4. Just before removing the patties from the heat, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.

5. While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

6. Once the cheese has melted over the burger patties, remove them from the heat and place them onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns.

7. Assemble the burger toppings on each patty following your preference: start with a lettuce leaf, followed by a tomato slice, onion slice, and pickle. Add additional condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise if desired.

8. Top the burger with the upper half of the toasted bun, pressing it gently.

9. Serve the classic burger immediately with your favorite side dish such as french fries, coleslaw, or a salad. Enjoy!
